This piece has been turned cross grain from a small log of Burr Elm. The spikey top is the outside of the log and is referred to as
either 'live edge' or 'natural edged', Small logs almost always have a star shake down the centre of them which happens as the woood dries. These have been filled with black holographic epoxy, making a feature of them rather than disguise them. The finial lid is made from English Holly and has a 12tpi thread with a corresponding collar glued into the opening ensuring a secure closure.
