Ruby Sky Single Urn

This piece came from a Field Maple tree (acer campestre) I had to take down in our garden which had grown too big. It's wood is normally a pale straw colour with the highest density of all the European maples and is often used for making musical instruments, particularly harps. I have stained it with lightfast dyes to enhance the otherwise hidden figure then applied four coats of waterborne lacquer and finally burnished it to a high gloss. The boxwood lid and corresponding Ebony insert have hand cut 16tpi threads ensuring a secure closure.
