This piece came from a very large, 150 year old Copper Beech tree that was being
felled as it was damaging the foundations of the vicarage in Walton, Warwickshire. It This happened in late spring 2018 when the tree was in full leaf and the wood is at it's wetest, ideally Beech is cut in the winter. As a result of being so wet it developed quite a few splits during the drying process. rather than throw split forms away I take the as an opportunity to make a feature of the splits rather than try to disguise them. I do this by using a two part epoxy adhesive mixed with powdered copper. It has an English Holly lid with a 12tpi handcut thread and a corresponding Holly insert.
