Sharpening Tools
Whenever I demonstrate to a group of turners I ask how many of them enjoy sharpening their tools and normally in any group about 4 - 5 % of them will say they do, which leaves a very large proportion who don't. Usually those turners who enjoy sharpening tools have at some time or other been trained to sharpen tools either as part of their apprenticships or something similar, the majority of turners that I meet have come to turning later in life and taken it up as a hobby and are at a great disadvantage to their collegues experience of sharpening, using a jig can give them back the advantage. I have been an advocate of sharpening jigs for over ten years now, so much so that I struggle to sharpen a tool freehand. I can resharpen the gouge I am using in about 30 seconds with a jig allowing me to enjoy my turning so much more and get a great finish straight from the tool. ------------------------------ The first time I used the Tru-Grind sharpening
system I was surprised at how easy it was to use, I had been
using another sharpening system that needed 4 jigs to do what
the Tru-Grind does with one. Here is an e-mail that was sent to Woodcut in New Zealand; Hello,
I bought the TRU-GRIND system yesterday, I bought it because
as I am getting older the control is getting worse. Click on the arrow to watch the video
