VL175EVSHB
BENCH MOUNT SWIVEL HEAD LATHE
The VL175EVSHB Lathe lets you build your own bench so that it can be exactly the right working height and also save some money. The only difference between this model and the stand mounted lathe is that you get a magnetic remote box on a 2 metre cable and the inverter is contained in a metal box that can be hung on the wall or incorporated into the bench.
"This is the lathe I would love to own " Alan Holtham ,Woodturning Magazine Feb 07
It features:
Heavy duty castings on head stock, bed, camlock banjo and camlock tail stock.
It has a one-piece head stock spindle that is machined from K1045 steel and has adjustable taper roller bearings, which are lubricated with high performance synthetic grease for many years of maintenance free use.
15 mm knockout hole, 2 MT and M33 x 3.5 thread, and is fitted with a chromed hand wheel.
The head stock casting is shaped so that it slopes down to the spindle nose allowing greater access to the back of bowls or large diameter spindles.
Head stock pulley has 24 point combination indexing / spindle lock and is fitted with J7 poly “V” drive belt.
It has a unique system of mounting and swiveling the head stock and motor.
All other swivel head lathes have two flat surfaces with a central pivot and lock down bolt, which when released separates drawing in dust and debris which collects between the two surfaces affecting the accuracy and alignment of the lathe. The VL175 head stock can best be likened to a gun turret. It sits on a 30mm circular flange (no corners to collect debris) with a 100mm deep collar recessed down into the lathe bed through which the drive belt passes, there is another circular flange bolted to the bottom of the collar which allows the head stock to rotate with precision and accuracy.
The head stock is locked in position by means of a threaded locking lever located on the outboard end under the index pin.
The head stock has 4 station indexed locking at; 0 degrees, 22.5 degrees from the centre line, to enable the user to turn larger diameter pieces whilst still using the standard banjo, or to have easy access to a hollow form. The other two are 67.5 and 90 degrees, the head stock can also be locked in any non indexed position just with the locking lever.
With the head swiveled to 90 degrees, diameters up to 900 mm (36”) x 380 mm (15”) deep can be turned using the optional outboard turning attachment.
The tail stock is camlock lever operated, travel of the quill is 75mm (3 “) and is self-ejecting with a No 2 Morse taper and a 10.5mm bore.
A heavy duty double bearing cone live centre is supplied as standard, as well as a 22mm adjustable point 4 prong drive centre, a 100mm (4”) faceplate, knockout bar and faceplate spanner.
A 300mm (12”) tool rest with a post diameter of 30mm comes with the lathe, longer and shorter lengths of tool rest are available as well as larger diameter faceplates.
The tool post locking lever is fitted with a phosphor bronze/ brass pellet which gives a far superior grip on the tool posts than the normal steel to steel contact.
Drive ratios are 1 : 3 and 1: 1 giving speeds ranging from 10 to 1000 and 30 to 3000 rpm via proven electronic variable speed control unit and a 1.1 kw (1.5 hp) motor.
